CA and Mercy Take the Court

After a long two days at the pool, we made our way to the spectacular new facility at Gates Chili High School to see the Canandaigua and Mercy girls play in sectional competition.  I found a great spot right under the net, and right in between the two teams, solving the stress I was having about loyalties.  I cheered for both teams and great play.  I had girls on both teams whose senior portraits I had done, and it was great to see them play.  Congratulations to Mercy on the win. It was a hard loss for the Canandaigua girls with key players injured on the side.

Congrats Will!

Congratulations to Will and all the CA swimmers and divers on an excellent state meet.  Will swam in finals for both his individual events, placing 7th in the 200 free and 8th in the 100.  Will, Kyle, Pat and Eric placed 6th in the 200 free relay.  And the 400 free relay of Will, Kyle, Pat, and Nick swam in the consolation heat and set a new CA record.  I’ll edit more photos soon, but here’s one to celebrate Will’s last day of high school swimming.  To see more CA swimming photos, visit the CA Swimming and Diving Shutterfly Share Site.

I am so incredibly proud of Will and all the effort that he has put into being an outstanding student-athlete.  I am looking forward to seeing the next chapter unfold as he heads to Harvard.

Creative Photo Displays

I have so many clients who love photographs.  They love the special portraits they do with me, as well as their own family and friend snapshots and creative photography work.  (I LOVE, Love, love talking cameras and photography with my seniors on a shoot, by the way. Always fun to talk shop with cool kids who love photography and appreciate all that goes in to creating portraits that are authentic and beautiful and meaningful.)

I’ve been running across some way cool photo displays lately that I just had to share.  There are some great, affordable ideas for dorm room decorating here!

2009 Reading List

This has nothing to do with photography, but I have been meaning to do this for myself for some time.  In 2009, I kicked a bad habit of watching TV in bed and turned back to books.  So here my reading list for the year, at least those I remember.  There are also the books I read with Rachel, but those are a blur, and so I didn’t include them, except Harry Potter, which was a huge experience.  She went on to read books 1 through 4 twice.  Putting these altogether like this make me see my “chic” read leanings, for sure.  And yes, I got sucked in to the Twilight series.  Sad, but true.

This year, I continue to read each night, kicking off with the slow, but consuming Outlander series, as well as the Chronicles of Narnia with Rachel.

A special thanks to Genevieve for the idea to use book covers rather than text to assemble this list!

Book recommendations are always welcome!

Flashback Friday | Canandaigua Senior Portraits

canandaigua_senior_portrait_adam

Week 6. From the minute I knew I would be photographing this senior, I had this shot in my head.  Three years later, and I still love it.  And it is so him, which is really what this is all about.

So, here is the deal with Flasback Fridays…. On Fridays in 2010, I am posting an image or two from a past session.  They could be as recent as the week before or from 2006, my first year in business.  No names will be provided, but if you spot yourself or your kiddo in the Friday Flashback, drop me a quick email to claim a complementary 8×10 of the image and a gift certificate for $50 toward a future session for yourself or to pass along to family or friends.  Be sure to check back every week, as you must be in touch before the next Friday to qualify for the photo and certificate (that email needs to reach me by midnight on Thursday).  You can check the blog or, to get a reminder each week, become a Facebook Fan of Laura Brophy Photography, which has a feed from the blog.

And what if I don’t post on a Friday?  The first person to email me with a friendly reminder on Saturday receives a $50 gift certificate toward a session for their immediate family’s use.  (Sorry, this one can’t be passed along.)  You are only eligible to receive this award once in 2010.

A few details to keep in mind: Only one certificate may be redeemed per session.  The certificate must be used within 1 year from the Flashback Friday in which the image appeared and may be applied towards a wedding, family or senior session.  There will be few “black out” special mini session dates for which you may not apply the Flashback Friday certificate. Those will be noted when posted.  Certificates may not be sold and have no cash value.
